Like any popular resort, Kauai offers plenty of shopping – from exquisite, hand-crafted jewelry to tacky hula dancer dashboard ornaments. Kilauea and Hanalei are your best bets if you’re looking for something unique. If money’s no object, the boutiques in Poipu and Princeville have plenty on offer.
Here’s our list of the best places to shop in Kauai:
1) Kong Lung Company. Housed in a Kilauea building dating from the 1940s, Kong Lung is a Kauai institution. Beautiful, high-priced house wares, art, clothing, jewelry, and ceramic. The adjacent Lotus Gallery is also worth a visit.
2) Yellowfish Trading Company in the Old Hanalei Schoolhouse. One-of-a-kind vintage art, Aloha shirts, and other Hawaiiana is available in this smart, stylish shop. The Ching Young Village, across the street, has more fun, funky shopping.
3) Bambulei. New and vintage Hawaiian clothing, and antiques in two restored plantation houses.
4) Kauai Museum Gift Shop. A great source for top-quality, authentic local arts and crafts including koa wood platters and bowls, Ni’ihau shell jewelry, and ceramics.
5) Kauai Products Fair. Stop by here from Thursday through Sunday for food, plants, clothes, and local arts and crafts.
6) Spouting Horn Arts and Crafts Market. A great place for souvenirs, you’ll find everything from $3 black pearl earrings to really nice, hand-crafted pocketbooks.
7) Poipu Shopping Village. The upscale boutiques, restaurants, and galleries here are a nice break from the usual. Fine jewelry, designer clothes, resort wear, and beautiful gifts at Sand People.
8) Sunshine Markets. There’s a farmers’ market on Kauai every day but Sunday. Pick up tropical fruits and vegetables, exotic flowers, and local food products.
9) Kilohana Plantation. There are nine shops here, selling everything from fine jewelry to ceramics and nice-quality gifts for the home.
10) Hanapepe Galleries. The ten or so art galleries in Hanapepe are all open until 9PM on Friday nights. Art Night is a fun event with street food, music, and working artists in the studios.
