There are so many fantastic things to do in Kauai, that choosing is the toughest part.  But here’s our list of the very best Kauai activities.

1)  Exploring the Na Pali Coast by boat.   Indescribably beautiful, the Na Pali Coast is an absolute must-see.  In winter, a catamaran trip is the way to go, plus if you’re lucky, you’ll see whales, sea turtles, and spinner dolphins.  In summer, paddle a kayak or explore the caves along the coast by Zodiac.  Charters leave from Port Allen, Waimea, and Hanalei.

2)  Touring Kauai by helicopter.  Even if you’ve seen the spectacular Na Pali coast from the sea, Kauai helicopter tours are unforgettable.    Soaring past the island’s cliffs, rainforests, and canyons is a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience.

3)  Exploring Waimea Canyon.  Whether you drive all the way to the Pu’u o Kila Lookout or take the hiking trails through Koke’e State Park, the rugged beauty of the Waimea Canyon will take your breath away.

4)  Snorkeling.  In summer, the delicate reefs, colorful fish, and lava tubes of Tunnels and Ke’e Beach are great spots. In winter, stick to the calmer water at Poipu Beach or Lawai Beach.

5)  Hiking.  From the world-renowned 11-mile Kalalau Trail to easy-going Mahaulepu Heritage, there’s a trail with gorgeous views for hikers of every ability.

6)  Surfing.   Beginners can rent boards and get lessons at Poipu Beach or Hanalei Bay.  More experienced boarders head for the North Shore in winter.

7)  Kayaking the Wailua River.   The five-hour round trip includes a hike to a waterfall and a refreshing plunge in the pool beneath it.

8) Tubing at an old sugar plantation.  Float down the flumes, irrigation ditches, and tunnels to a natural swimming hole.

9)  Strolling through an exotic garden.  Spectacular flowers and tropical plants are on display at Limahuli and Na Aina Kai Gardens on the North Shore and the National Tropical Botanical Gardens near Spouting Horn.

10)  Visiting a Farmers’ Market.  There’s a farmers’ market on Kauai every day but Sunday.  In addition to tropical fruits and vegetables, you’ll also find artisanal food products and crafts.  Plus, it’s a great way to meet the locals.
