Poipu Beach & South Shore Shopping

Sand People Poipu
With great resorts and hotels, it’s not surprising that Poipu shopping is some of the best on the island. From funky to fabulous, there’s something for everyone.
Koloa is the main town on the south shore. Roughly two blocks square, it has a stuck-in-time simpleness that’s a nice contrast to the new developments that surround it. The Big Save on Koloa Road is the cheapest place to pick up groceries, sundries, and beverages.
There’s a dive shop, a shave ice place, a Lappert’s Ice Cream, and some gift shops selling tee shirts, candles, books, and souvenirs.
On Mondays, there’s a farmers market at noon in Anne Knudsen Park. There’s a market almost daily on Kauai and they’re a great place to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables.
In Hawaii, grocery stores sell beer, wine, and liquor. So if your place has a fridge, you can maximize its potential at the Big Save. If you’re staying a while – and you’re a member – you might want to make a run to the Costco in Lihue, 15 minutes away.
If you’re looking for Hawaii souvenirs to take back home, the outdoor market at Spouting Horn

Puka Dog in Poipu Shopping Village
has everything from $3 black pearl earrings to coconut-shell pocketbooks. The vendors are friendly and helpful, the sea breeze is refreshing, and non-shoppers can go watch the surf shooting out of the horn.
Less kitschy Hawaiiana is available at the National Tropical Botanical Garden gift shop in the Visitor’s Center off Lawai Road. This is the best place for high-quality craft shopping in Poipu.
Past the rotary on Ala Kalanikaumaka, the new Kukui’ula Village shopping center has several gift shops, galleries, and restaurants already open. When the complex officially opens in December, it will have upscale shops like Sunglass Hut, Quiksilver, and Tommy Bahama.
The best Poipu gifts shops are located in Poipu Shopping Village, which has two fine jewelry stores – Na Hoku and Black Pearl – Poipu Fine Arts gallery, several clothing stores, stylish Sand People, and a Whaler’s General Store, where you can pick up just about anything.
A scoop of Banana-Coconut-Macadamia-nut from Papalani Gelato or a Puka Dog will take the edge off if you’re feeling peckish.
