Poipu Beach & South Shore Hotels

Kiahuna Plantation

Kiahuna Plantation on beautiful Poipu Beach

The Grand Hyatt Kauai is a good choice for those who prefer a huge (600+ room) luxury property with all the amenities.  Down the road from Poipu, on Shipwrecks Beach, it has one of the best spas on Kauai, an adjacent golf course, and several of the South Shore’s best restaurants.  During winter, you may see monk seals of the beach there, but it’s not good for swimming.

For that, you should stay at one of the Poipu Beach resorts – the Sheraton Kauai, or the new Koa Kea resort.  Located on Kiahuna Beach, the Sheraton has the only ocean-front luau on the island and The Point is arguably the best place on Kauai to watch the sun set.

Koa Kea is a smaller, boutique property that recently opened on the grounds of the old Poipu Beach Hotel.   Their 3-night packages are very reasonably priced.

If you prefer a condo, Kiahuna Plantation is hard to beat.  With one, two, and three bedroom units in a variety of price ranges and a wide, sandy beach, it offers great value for money.   Kiahuna has a low-key, island style that we really enjoy.  And the restaurant, Plantation Gardens, is one of the most romantic on Kauai.

The two-bedroom villas at the more expensive Marriott Waiohai Beach Club are a good choice for families.  And the kids will appreciate the swimming pool.  These are two of the nicest Poipu vacation rentals, and you’ll likely enjoy a stay at either one.
