Kapaa & East Shore Hotels

The East Shore of Kauai has some of the most affordable Kauai accommodations.  Everything from luxury resorts to cheap vacation rentals.

If you want all the bells and whistles of a big (588-room) resort, try the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.  The hotel prides itself on service, and you can arrange everything from a scuba dive to a private beach-side dinner.  There’s a good kids’ program, a spectacular pool, an adjacent golf course, and beautiful Kalapaki Beach is nearby.

The resort’s proximity to the airport means that noise can sometimes be a nuisance.

Renovated in 2007, The Hilton Kauai Beach Resort makes up for its unswimmable beach with several beautiful pools, one of which has a sandy bottom.  The complimentary shuttle to and from the Lihue Airport is another nice feature.  And the resort’s three restaurants offer some of Kauai’s best dining.

Hotel Coral Reef Resort on the Beach in Kapaa is one of Kauai’s best hotel values.  Ocean-front suites there start at just $245 a night.

There are lots of vacation rentals on the East Shore of Kauai.   Because they have kitchens and can often accommodate more people than a hotel room, vacation rentals are often less expensive than many Kauai hotels.   Just don’t expect all the services and amenities that Kauai’s resorts have to offer.

Many vacation rentals are individually owned condos and timeshares.  Whether or not you enjoy your vacation will depend on the quality of the unit you get, which can vary widely – even at the same property.

Before choosing a Kauai vacation rental, do plenty of research and investigate all the different ways to rent – through the renter directly on sites like vrbo.com, or through a property management company like Outrigger or Aston.

Wailua Bay View condos are one of the best cheap vacation rentals. A one-bedroom condo overlooking Wailua Bay goes for as little as $145 a night here.  You’ll have to walk off the property to get down to the beach. But that’s not much of an inconvenience for rates this low.

Lae Nani is another great Kauai vacation rental if you have kids because they have a protected section of beach with no waves.  There’s plenty of shopping and restaurants  next door at the Coconut Marketplace.  And the grounds are nicely landscaped.

If you can’t leave your Sub Zero refrigerator back home, Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa offers the most luxurious condos on Kauai’s East Side.  Along with the fridge, you’ll get granite counters, flat panel TVs, a washer-dryer, and more.  The meandering pool here covers nearly two acres.  All this luxury comes at a price, and the neighborhood is very congested.  But if you pop for an ocean-front unit, you probably be very content.

All in all, this is one of the best places to stay in Kauai.
